Our story
Built for Maa, in a kitchen in Moradabad.
Maatrachhaya means maa ki chhaya — the shelter of a mother. The name is also where this product began.
A son, a mother, a restaurant
Our family runs a small restaurant in Moradabad. The kitchen, the floor, the regulars — that is all maa. She knows every recipe by feel, every customer by name, every shortcut that keeps the day moving. What she does not know — and should never have to learn — is software with seven menus, four sub-tabs, and a help article for every button.
We tried every POS we could find. Each one was built for someone else: chains with IT teams, owners who live on dashboards, managers comfortable with training videos. None of them was built for the person actually running the floor — someone who had spent her life cooking, not clicking.
So her son built one for her.
What “easy” actually means
Maatrachhaya is not simple because we made the buttons bigger. It is simple because every screen is the answer to a single question — if Maa were looking at this, what would she need to see?One screen for billing. One for the kitchen. One for the day's numbers. No tabs three levels deep. No English she would not use at the chai stall.
If she can run the floor without picking up a phone for help, we have got it right.
Why this work matters
Most restaurants in India are not chains. They are families. Mothers, fathers, sons, daughters — keeping a kitchen running between school runs and account books. They did not sign up to be IT managers, and they should not have to pay extra to feel at home in their own till. We are building Maatrachhaya for them.
The promise we engineered, not the one we wrote
When you trust someone with your customers' details, your recipes, and your day's takings, “trust us” is not enough. Maatrachhaya is end-to-end encrypted. Your data is sealed on your device with a key only you hold. Our servers see ciphertext. Our team has no decryption path — not for support, not for analytics, not for the highest bidder. We could not read your data even if we wanted to. By design, not by promise.
What we don't do
We don't take a percentage of your bills. We don't charge per cashier. We don't hide core features behind a tier. And we couldn't sell your data even if someone showed up with a cheque — we don't hold the keys.
Where we're going
Maatrachhaya is in private beta with a small group of family-run restaurants. Over the next year we are focused on three things — making billing the fastest in the market, making owner reports the most useful, and making aggregator integrations the most reliable. All while keeping the floor calmer, not noisier — for every Maa running every shift.
See it run a real service.
